Description
  • (It is thought that this document is a late 19th century copy, since it is printed not the original described in the printed version: "The Adventures of Serjeant Benjamin Miller", Journal of the Society of Army Historical Research, vol VII, 1928). Benjamin Miller was a native of Melbury Osmond, born in 1776. In 1795 he enlisted in the Royal Regiment of Artillery; he served in Gibraltar, Minorca; 1800, he volunteered for Egypt; he was at the Battle of Alexandria; 1801, Minorca; 1802, Gibraltar; 1808, routed French at Mondego Bay, reached Corunna; 1809, preparing to embark, Army attacked; reference to General Sir John Moore, who spoke to Miller; 1809, landed in England; 1811, married, posted sergeant; 1814, rendered unfit for service by an accident, and discharged on pension. Here the narrative ends.
